Bayou X at Roots on the River!

  • Behind the Rodeway Inn 593 Rockingham Road Bellows Falls, VT, 05101 United States (map)

Langdon NH's own Cajun/Zydeco/Worldbeat band BAYOU X kicks off the Sat June 9 program at the 19th Annual Roots on the River Festival, Noon - 1 pm. Led by New Orleans native Pete Simoneaux on fiddle & vocals with spouse/partner Linda Simoneaux on accordion & vocals, Bayou X is celebrating release of it's brand new CD, Your Mother Must Be Something Special. While based in New England, the music of Bayou X is deeply rooted in the music of Louisiana Cajun and Creole culture, while incorporating a wide range of global "creole" musical genres that have contributed to the DNA of Cajun, Zydeco and New Orleans music. The music of Bayou X is above all else, high energy dance music, of a decidedly fun and positive outlook. Their current album, Your Mother Must Be... Something Special, is noteworthy for it's focus on original compositions, grounded in traditional genres,  but unafraid of turning the tropes of those genres inside out, while never losing sight of the party vibe!

Back O’Town Cajun Band plays classic, acoustic Cajun music, straight up. Pete & Linda Simoneaux on fiddle, accordion(s) and vocals, with Michael Pattavina on acoustic guitar on vocals. Augmented as needed by Bayou X mainstays Steve Frankel on electric bass, and Ben Carr on drums. Back O’Town’s repertoire encompasses the work of artists such as Amadee Ardoin & Dennis McGee, Joe & Cleoma Falcon, Leo Soileau with Mayeuse LaFleur and Moise Robin, Angela LeJeune, Iry LeJeune, Nathan Abshire, Lawrence Walker, the Balfa Brothers, and more, from from the legendary recordings of late 1920s and early 1930s, through the postwar periods of the 1940s and 50s, and the great Cajun music revival of the 1960s and 70s. Pete & Linda & Mike each bring over three decades experience playing and studying and dancing to this music. Dance instruction at all levels is also a staple of their repertoire.
